Unveiling the new Kansas Center for the Book

On September 14, we cut the ribbon on the Center for the Book at the State Library of Kansas. We were all spiffed up and ready for company, including finally having our wireless access up and running! The Center for the Book already has a number of projects including Letters about Literature (a nationwide project where kids are encouraged to write to their favorite authors); enhancement of the authors and illustrators database; a newsletter about Kansas books; and hopefully...in the fall of 2006, a statewide Kansas Festival of Books! In the above picture, we have the Poet Laureate of Kansas; the Director of the National Center for the Book, John Cole; me and Roy Bird.

The picture on the left is the actual ribbon cutting with the able assistance of Governor Sebelius. Vikki Jo Stewart and Nancy Ott poured punch; Vikki was the "organizer" and did a wonderful job of making it a lovely party. And Eric Hansen entertained us with beautiful music from the lute

It was such a nice day!!!
